scenes from the weekend

I’ve started to really enjoy the fall weather we’ve been having. It’s a bit cool in the mornings and evenings, but it’s been warm during the day and really crisp and clear. We opted to spend some time at the beach this weekend, enjoying the sun and the views.

We did some necessary end of summer chores, like pulling boats and docks. I use the word ‘we’ loosely though – my family members did their end of summer chores, while I mainly spent time taking photos of it all…. like this one, of my cousin Kyla cleaning the underside of the boat –

(She thought I was kidding when I said I was going to post this photo)

After the work, we hung out and did a little of this –

And all in all, it was quite a nice relaxing day.

I have been doing quite a bit of sewing, but at the moment I don’t have anything I can show you. I did get a little work done on this project though — love those stars!

There was a lot of quilting going on too – and hopefully I’ll be able to show you the final quilts soon!

Until then!

fabric stacks

I like to make piles of fabrics. I enjoy just sitting amidst my fabric bins and selecting fabric which could, potentially, make for fun quilts. I tend to do this in the morning, before getting ready for work. Can you picture it? Me, in my pajamas, getting in a little fabric fix before work? Crazy, I know.

Anyway… enough with the crazy talk, how about some photos of fabric?

aliens

These guys are so cute. Maybe a fun boy quilt?

(For those who asked, the alien fabric is from a pair of PJs by Munki Munki (designed by Heather Ross).)

Or how about this one –

grayyellow

I love this gray/yellow combo… or is that charcoal and sour lemon? or maybe citron? (can you tell I’ve been reading the JCrew catalog?)

And you certainly can’t go wrong with goldfish –

Oh the possibilities!

Now time for work…

fall-inspired patchwork squares

fall-quilt2

The weather here has turned decidedly Fall-like… and quite suddenly. Last week we were swimming, this week I’m pulling out wool sweaters. I should know by now that that’s how it goes here in VT, but yet each year I’m taken aback by the abrupt change. Instead of lamenting the change, I decided to embrace it with a nice fall inspired quilt. I pulled out a bunch of fall colored fabrics from my stash -lots of olive greens, golds, browns and some orange.

I decided to go for just a simple patchwork square design. After looking at the fabrics for a while, I decided the orange was too bright for the look I wanted, so out went those prints and in came some other solid greens and browns for some contrast. I cut a bunch of 3.5″ squares, and then layed them out and moved them around until I was happy with the layout. Here’s where I’m a bit jealous of everyone with their design walls – here’s mine… the floor. I figure all that bending must be good for something though!

(I’m sure some of you are cringing to see that sometimes I can’t even be bothered to iron my fabrics before cutting!)

I sewed them all together into this quilt top –

and I love it!

And for now, I feel ok about Fall as well… providing I have a nice fall quilt to keep me warm!
