Springtime Tovas in Liberty!

It’s no secret that I’m in love with the Wiksten Tova top. I made several last year, and now that Spring is around the corner, I felt the urge to add a couple more to my collection (I really don’t think there’s such a thing as too many Tovas, do you?).

When Fabric.com first started selling Liberty fabric, I snagged some of the Mirabelle print, which is a favorite of mine. It sat for many, many months and then I saw Karyn make the same top in a different colorway of this print and I knew I had to get my act together and make mine.

I absolutely love it in the Liberty fabric, so much so that I made up a second in another favorite Liberty print (purchased here at nido). And now I feel ready for Spring (and just in time it seems… the weather is feeling decidedly Spring-like these days!)

And have you seen? Jenny Gordy of Wiksten has now made both the Tova and Wiksten tank patterns available as PDF downloads, which means you can now buy them for a third of the price of the paper pattern, providing you’re willing to print and tape together your pattern. As I mentioned previously, the price is what made me hesitate for so long before buying the Tova pattern, so I’m quite happy to now have the option of the PDF pattern. (And indeed, I wasted no time in purchasing and making a couple of the Wiksten tanks too!)

P.S. Also, Kerry at verykerryberry is hosting a Tova sew-along, so if you want company while you sew your Tova, head on over there!

and a little more patchwork…

So, how about a fun patchwork quilt for this Thursday?

(As an aside, is it weird that I sometimes feel like I have to apologize when I show yet another quilt made up of patchwork squares?)

Regardless, patchwork quilts still remain a favorite – and these days (with a very busy, nearly-walking, nearly 1 year old) sometimes I just need a nice easy project that I don’t have to think too much about!

This one is made up of my favorite prints from Lotta Jansdotter’s Echo line, along with a variety of Kona and Essex solids.

Wouldn’t you know that I decided to go out to take photos of this quilt on one of the coldest days of this winter? Morgan and Max were not thrilled about the outing, and spent most of it like this, watching me from the warmth of the car as I wrestled around with this quilt.

The backing is pieced with some more Echo and I quilted it with vertical lines on each side of the vertical seams. Then for a little extra fun I decided to attempt to quilt a bit of Lotta’s design into the quilt, trying to quilt that bumpy design along the vertical seams. Once again, it’s subtle, but maybe you can see a bit of it in the photo above? It would have worked better if the backing had been a solid…

I’m quite taken with it, and love being able to see all these gorgeous Lotta Jansdotter prints all in one place!

la la la la llamas!

I didn’t know how much I loved llamas, at least, not until I saw Laurie Wisbrun’s newest collection, Llook! Llamas!. She has three fabulous new prints and a pillow panel (you can purchase them in her shop), and my oh my, those llamas are cute, and I love the coordinating flapdoodle hat and peruvian blanket prints.

I couldn’t wait to start cutting into these prints, so I immediately pulled out and paired them with a rainbow of fun and vibrant prints and solids.

Of course I wanted to feature those little llamas, so I fussy cut several of them, surrounded them with these fun prints, and then set all the blocks on point. I love the look of blocks set on point, and I think it’s quite fun with these prints (even echoing a bit of that peruvian blanket print!)

The finished quilt top is so bright and fun! And I am totally in love!
