windmill whimsy 2

I don’t think I’ll ever tire of this color combo! I think it’s perfect as a baby quilt, and especially perfect as it works equally as well for a boy or a girl, or when you need a gift for someone who may not be finding out what they’re having.

And of course I’m always happy when I can incorporate a bit of those Heather Ross goldfish!

I made this top last summer (as a repeat of my Windmill Whimsy quilt from way back) and posted about it here, and then, uh, apparently got stalled at the quilting part. Again, I’m making 2012 all about finishing older quilts, so this was next on the list, and I’m pleased to say it ending up being a quick finish. I did a good old meandering design on this one, since I love the all-over quilting on this design.

I used up some of the remaining printed squares for the backing, and then used this great Robert Kaufman Anne Kelle Remix dot print for the binding.

You know how sometimes dots as binding can go slightly askew? I think this one, with its scattered dots, is perfect as binding (and comes in several colors!).

I’m really happy with how this one turned out! And as an aside, look at all this sun in Vermont this weekend! Like so many, we’re experiencing an early (and warm!) Spring, and boy is it nice. Maybe not so great for quilt photography though…

do you love dots? [a sponsored giveaway]

I think it’s possible that I use a polka dot in nearly every quilt I make. Every time I pull fabrics for a new quilt I automatically reach for a polka dot or two. I find them so useful as coordinating prints, and as such, have kind of filled my stash with polka dots of all shapes, sizes and colors. Hows about you? Do you share my love of polka dots? If so, this giveaway’s for you. Jackie from Canton Village Quilt Works has kindly offered up this colorful bundle of polka dots for one of you.

Jackie sells a great variety of fabrics, both solids and prints. I’m particularly fond of her wide selection of Kona solids, which she sells at a great price. She also stocks lots of Art Gallery, Free Spirit and Westminster fabrics, including a nice selection of Kaffe Fassett prints. (And did you know that Jackie is also a professional longarm quilter?)

Speaking of Kaffe, Jackie is offering up this lovely FQ bundle of Kaffe Fassett Spots. I love these bold, bright spots and can see these being a great addition to any stash, and any sewing project! Want to win? Just leave a comment here (one per person, please!). If you’d like, perhaps you’d tell me your favorite basic? Spots, stripes, checks? I will select a winner on Sunday evening and will update this post. And of course, I hope you’ll give Jackie a little love and pay a little visit to her shop! Jackie has also provided a discount code for you in case you can’t resist doing a little shopping right away. Use discount code film15 at checkout for 15% off your purchase!

Happy Friday, and a very happy weekend to everyone!

Update! We have a winner! Random.org has selected #718, Deb, who said “YES!!! I love polkas!!! I’d love to be your winner!”.

I hope you enjoy your polka dots, Deb!!

oh swoon!

I always loved the Swoon pattern, but it took Katy organizing a Swoon along to get me to actually find my pattern and get sewing! I decided to use the original Flea Market Fancy because I love the colors and thought it would look great in this pattern.

I had fun pairing fabrics for each block and seeing each (huge!) block come together. I got all the blocks finished, but then procrastinated getting the top finished because if I’m being honest… sashing? Not my favorite. Of course, once I stopped procrastinating and just started sewing, the top came together without a problem.

And wow, do I love it! My dilemma now is selecting a backing (hopefully before it ends up in the unfinished quilt closet!) and deciding whether to quilt it on my own or send it out for some fun quilting. (Angela provided some interesting ideas for quilting Swoon quilts, but half of me (ok, three quarters of me) relishes the thought of having someone else quilt it!)
