the big and the little (or, won’t she ever get tired of momo wonderland?)

I warned you about these repeat quilts. I’m going to show you anyway, even though they’re similar to nearly exact replicas of quilts I’ve already shown here, so you can feel free to skip it… (I’m almost boring myself with how many times I’ve made this same quilt!)

However, despite the number of times I’ve made it, I still just can’t get enough of it. Each time I pull one from the dryer, I fall in love with it once again. I made three more — baby wonderland versions 4, 5, & 6 I think? — but don’t worry, I’ll only show these two photos. I think you get the idea.

And then, because I just couldn’t stop, I decided to make a larger version, using a layer cake this time. And you know what, I love this one too!

For the backing I used the same brown solid that I used for the binding of the baby quilt, along with a couple strips of the Wonderland fabrics. I quilted this one with straight lines as well, though instead of squares, I opted for a rectangular pattern on the diagonal.

It’s big (54″ x 64″), and just as cozy and soft as the baby quilts, and would make a super quilt to snuggle under on the couch. Perhaps a nice matching set? Who knows. I do know that it’s for sale in the shop, along with baby wonderland 6, should anyone be interested .

strawberries and champagne baby quilt

S&C-baby-quilt

Thanks again for all the kind emails during my absence. It was nice to take a break, but I missed you all and I found I really did miss blogging! And so I’m back, sooner than I expected to be. And since it wasn’t a really long break, I don’t have too many new quilts to show you. I did make a few quilts, but they’re mainly just repeats of previously shown quilts. I’ll have a post about those later on in the week.

But for today, photos of my recently completed Strawberries & Champagne baby quilt. It’s quilted and washed and I love it!

I really like this color combination – it’s predominately pink, but with the addition of some gold and brown to make it a bit more sophisticated and a little less sugary sweet.

For the backing, I used one of the pink solids from the front. Then I made up a bunch of smaller improv-styled blocks to create a fun patchwork strip. I stippled the quilt using a pale pink silk finish thread and I really love the way it looks. It perfectly blends with the pink backing and provides just a subtle hint of pink on the front.

It’s bound with a solid brown and measures about 44″ x 53″. And it’s now for sale in the shop.

block party quilt top

block-party-blocks

You may recall that for my month of the Block Party quilting bee I requested blocks in the style of Denyse Schmidt’s Drunk Love in a Log Cabin. I didn’t have any particular colors in mind, so instead I just sent out a different selection of fabric scraps to each bee member. These talented ladies really came through for me – I was amazed and thrilled with each of the blocks I received (click the links to see a few of the fabulous blocks that were made).

I decided to go for a queen sized quilt (since half the blocks would be made for me!), so for a few months now I’ve been adding to the pile of blocks. They’re all complete now, and I’ve arranged (and rearranged!) them on our living room floor until I found a pleasing arrangement. It was a bit of an obstacle course there for a while, but I’m happy to say that I now have them all sewn together into this lovely quilt top. I can’t say enough about it. I won’t even try. Just know that for the last several days all I’ve been doing is admiring it.

I’m thinking of a solid aqua for the backing. I might even splurge on my favorite Amy Butler solid. I think this quilt is worth it, don’t you?

A huge (huge!) thanks to the ladies of block party – Alissa, Kristin, Jacquie, Elizabeth, Ashley, Sarah, Lisa, Rashida, Nettie, Josie & Megan – for the absolutely stunning blocks you all sent!!

And speaking of Block Party… have you heard the news? Alissa and Kristin, the co-hosts of this quilting bee, are writing a book! You can read more about it here. All the women from our quilting bee have been asked to contribute, and additionally, the Block Party blog will be changing over to a quilt along. If you decide to follow along, you may have a chance to have your block in the book as well! Keep an eye on the Block Party blog for more information.
