patchwork, patchwork, patchwork…

I hope I’m not boring you with all these Etsuko Furuya patchwork quilts. I know I’ve shown several of them in the past, but this is what I’ve been working on all week… lots of little squares, all rearranged into fun quilts!

echino-quilts

I love how each one is just slightly different, depending on which prints and solids are selected. I’ll be really sad when I run out of these older Echino prints, though I do love the new line – how about you?

Here are the latest versions —

echino-boy-quilt

a boyish one in blue, green, red and mustard

pink-patchwork

pretty in pink (and aqua!)

purple-echino-quilt

and purple panthers and pigs…

The boyish red/green/mustard one is already spoken for, but the other two are listed in the shop!

Tufted Tweets, anyone? (a giveaway!)

tufted-tweets

By now I know you’ve all seen photos of this gorgeous new fabric. It’s a new line by Laurie Wisbrun for Robert Kaufman Fabrics, called Tufted Tweets. I had a chance to work with it to create a couple quilts, so I can tell you how absolutely wonderful it is! A huge congrats to Laurie for a really stunning line!

It will be arriving in stores sometime this month, but in the meantime, how would you like to win some? The generous folks at Robert Kaufman have sent two fat quarter packs of the whole line – a total of three yards each. Just think of all the fun you could have!

To enter, leave a comment on this post (one comment per person, please!). Maybe you’d let me know which color is your favorite. And if you already know, maybe which particular print you think will be your favorite. (That’s a hard one to answer – they’re all gorgeous! – but today I’m really feeling the Avian Therapy in sorbet!) Or if you’d rather, let me know what you think you’d make out of these fabrics.

Me? I’d make another quilt. I’m kind of partial to them…

I’ll randomly pick two winners on Thursday night!

two new shirts!

I’ve been talking about wanting to make a few spring clothing items, and finally got my chance this weekend.

two-shirts

This pattern is the Shearwater Kaftan by Toni Coward, which I purchased from Randi at Fresh Squeezed Fabrics. I’m always hesitant to purchase patterns, because I don’t think I’ve ever really managed to follow one all the way through. Not the case here — I think this pattern is great! It’s well written, and the shirt comes together pretty quickly and easily.

In my attempt to really do it right this time, I first made one using some bleached muslin I had on hand to check the sizing. Surprisingly enough, I didn’t have to change a thing, and I ended up liking it in the white so I finished it with a little bias binding in Anna Maria Horner’s voile around the neck and along the bottom hem.

I liked it enough that I even wore it to a family gathering this weekend. My uncle said it had a ‘south of the border’ look, which I’m thinking may not have been a compliment. But no matter, I quite like it and I think it will get a lot of use this summer!

nani-iro-shirt

I made up the ‘real’ version in this lovely Nani Iro double gauze which I’ve been saving for something special. It also happens to be the same fabric used in the pattern photo. It’s lightweight and airy and I can’t wait to head to the beach wearing it! (and of course I’m planning a third out of some Little Folks fabric!)

Unfortunately I didn’t finish them in time to enter them in Rae‘s Spring Top week, but that’s probably good. Have you seen the entries in the Flickr pool? Amazing! As a judge I got a chance to score a bunch of them, and wow, it was hard! So many fabulous tops! Voting starts today, so head over there each day this week to vote for your favorite!
