the quilts are on display!

Nido is looking especially lovely these days – filled with great fabrics and quilts! If you live in the Burlington area, or are visiting for the annual Vermont Quilt Festival, I hope you’ll stop by to take a look this weekend! The artist reception is tonight, from 5:30 – 7:30, and the quilts will remain hanging through the weekend.

And for those who can’t make it, I hope to have a chance to list a few quilts in the shop next week.

Happy Friday!

sewing skills as a job requirement… (I like the sound of that!)

If you’re anything like me, you may have tried to figure out a way to turn your hobby into a real job. I certainly put in enough time, but unfortunately the pay doesn’t reflect that! Ah, not complaining — just my lead up to say that when I came across a job opening with a great fabric manufacturer, I certainly wished that I lived in the area so that I could apply!

I thought I’d post the description here though, just in case one of you is lucky enough to live in the area and be looking for a job in this industry —

A new position  of  Projects Coordinator has been created in a textile company located in Jersey City, NJ.

The right candidate will be:

  • Energetic
  • Creative
  • Have some sewing skills, or be knowledgeable about sewing. (Actual sewing is not a job requirement but an aid as you will be working with proofing written instructions for quilts and other sewn products).
  • Be proficient in Photoshop
  • Have excellent skills in the use of social media / good wordsmith
  • Self-starter as well as a good team player

The perfect candidate will also be knowledgeable of the independent quilting marketplace. Some work experience is required.

Send Resumes to: laura@baumtextile.com

Of course, if you do apply, maybe don’t mention it to me – I’ll just be envious! 🙂

a winner, and a little more patchwork

Thanks for all the great comments on my last quilt! It’s fun to hear from so many of you – I know it’s hard to take the time to leave comments on blog posts (I tend to read posts on my phone and even though I tag those I want to come back to comment on, I rarely find the time to do so), but I do enjoy hearing your thoughts!

Anyway, on to the winner… out of 400 comments, random.org selected #396! That’s Carla G who said, “What a fabulous quilt!! And the colors are awesome! Thanks for a chance to win! :)” I’ll email you shortly Carla!

echino-patchwork

And, just to add a bit of color to this otherwise drab post, here’s a little peek at my latest finish – a juicy and bright Echino patchwork baby quilt. Regardless of how many Echino patchwork quilts I’ve made in the past, I always love digging through my stash and pulling together fun colors and prints. The Echino here is paired with lots of Cotton Couture solids in corals, pinks and a bit of brown, along with a little neutral linen. I was quite happy to discover the perfect variegated thread, which adds a little something special. This one is also headed over to Nido for this weekend’s show!
