1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8…9 patch!

9-patch

I finally finished the 9 patch quilt along quilt last week. I think that puts me about a month late, which is actually pretty good for me. I’ve never been one for deadlines (or patterns!). And speaking of, of course I couldn’t manage to follow the set pattern… it was just a matter of time before I veered off course.

I did do all 70 9 patches, and completed the sashing, but then I couldn’t decide if I wanted to use the remaining squares for the border, as shown in the inspiration quilt. I looked at it for a long time trying to decide which I’d like better, and I ultimately decided to skip the border (part laziness, perhaps?!)

I liked the way it looked with just the 9 patches on the front, so I decided to use the remaining squares for the back instead.

I paired those squares with one of my favorite solids – Kona Coal. I love the dark gray solid with the bright white and the colored squares.

(please ignore all the wrinkles!)

This quilt measures about 52″ x 75″. I stippled it and bound it in some of the green striped fabric from the Red Letter Day line mixed with some of the plum filigree print from the Good Folks line. I tried to use mainly fabrics from my scrap bin, and I think I was pretty successful! There’s a little bit of all my favorites in there!

And now I have to decide if I’ll be adding it to the pile, or adding it to the shop!

where the quilts live

I’m often asked what I do with all my quilts. This might not be pretty, but I welcome you on this little photo tour of where the quilts live…

Let’s start upstairs in the guest room, where I store the stack that are currently for sale

Then a quick detour to our bedroom – our queen sized quilt on our unmade (I mean, yet to be made…) bed

Heading downstairs… the Echino quilt lives on the back of this couch

And in the chair next to it is the 9 patch I haven’t yet shown you (yay, I finally finished it!)

And maybe now you’re thinking… “hmm… that’s not too bad… Just a couple quilts – nothing to be ashamed of…” Well, you haven’t yet seen this room, or this chair, which is positively groaning under the weight of all the quilts.

I don’t even know what to say.

But there you have it, and now you know. I’m a quiltaholic. Quite possibly there’s a group for this?

Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend! It’s actually going to be sunny and hot here so I have a beach weekend planned… and if there’s time, maybe I’ll work on a little of this, my next quilt –

pillows to match a quilt, part 2

patchwork-pillows4

Remember these pillows? I had just finished my Kaleidoscope quilt and decided to make some new pillows for the couch. At the same time, I also started a second set, based on my Patchwork Squares quilt, which I had also finished around that time. I got as far as cutting the fabric strips, and then it was shoved to the side.

I saw these strips sitting on the back of my chair (one that currently holds all sorts of unfinished projects!) every morning. And every morning I thought to myself that it would be so quick to just finish those up. Yet days went by and I never got around to it.

Yesterday was the day. I sewed them together, quilted the front and backs with some straight and curved random lines and gave them a couple invisible zippers. And of course now I’m wondering why it took me so long…

I think they’re a great addition to our living room!
