Henry – 1 month!

Henry was one month old on Valentine’s Day, so it gave me good reason to pull out my red and pink quilts and fabric! I wasn’t sure I was going to attempt these monthly photos, but I do know I’ll regret not having them, so attempt it I shall. As you can see, it’s taken me a couple weeks to actually get the photos off the camera and online…

Unrelated, but do you all follow Deborah of Whipstitch? I’ve followed her for years and have always loved her writing style and her upbeat and fun personality which comes through in her writing. She’s so enthusiastic about sewing and teaching people to sew and is now offering another fun opportunity for new and seasoned quilters alike with her Murder Mystery Quilt (a monthly subscription club).

When she emailed me about it to see if I’d help spread the word, I was immediately intrigued – it sounds like such a fun and unique idea! You can read more about it here. Knowing Deborah as I feel I do, I knew this would be well thought out and presented beautifully, and I’m pleased to say I was right – I had a chance to peek at January and February’s chapters and quilt blocks and I was immediately sucked right into the story. It’s well written and I can tell already that it will be fun to read and to try to look for clues to figure out the mystery. Deborah also provides nice detail and instruction for the accompanying quilt block – giving enough instruction so that a new quilter could follow along but also keeping it interesting enough for someone who’s been quilting a long time.

double gauze plus – a quilt top

As you can imagine, life’s been busy around here lately. Luckily Henry seems to be a pretty calm baby so far – spending most of his days asleep (and then most of his nights awake…I’m very tired!).

I spend quite a lot of time sitting up in bed feeding the baby and on occasion I find myself in somewhat of a daze, just staring at the quilt covering our bed (this king sized plus quilt out of favorite Denyse Schmidt prints). One sleepless night I decided a plus quilt might be a good way to ease back into quilting.

I had purchased many of these lovely Nani Iro prints a while back at my local fabric shop, and paired them with a few others from my double gauze stash, thinking these soft colors would make a nice quilt. The stack happened to still be hanging out on my sewing table, so it was easy enough to decide to use that stack for the plus quilt.

You’ll notice that a few of the prints were swapped out – after arranging them on the design wall I felt the darker ones stood out too much in this type of design, so they were replaced with a few other lighter prints. I’m really pleased with the final arrangement and of course I can’t wait to wrap up in double gauze goodness!

(Henry seems to be a fan as well and snoozed here on the floor for quite a while the other afternoon. His bed? Not so much…)

Friday giveaway, thanks to Nido
