new fabrics, a new stack, and a new sponsor

squares

There’s been some new fabrics arriving here recently (a lack of sewing time often leads to fabric purchases…). I know I already showed these great prints above, but hey, they’re awfully pretty and worth showing again, right? This line is called Squared Elements for Art Gallery. Such super basics, and a great bunch of colors.

hipsters

The stack above is a fun new line, Hipster, by Shannon Lamden of Aunty Cookie fame for Riley Blake. Shannon was nice enough to send me a bit of each of the prints a while back and I’ve been looking forward to using them in a quilt.

This low volume polka dot bundle is from Riley Blake’s La Creme collection and was purchased from Westwood Acres, one of my newest sponsors. This great shop is run by Amanda and her husband. They are known for their fabulous fat quarter and fat eighth bundles – by the collection (I recently bought a bundle of Denyse Schmidt’s Florence) and they also put together some great custom bundles, like this In the Navy bundle I snagged recently since I find I’m lacking in navy fabrics. Amanda also frequently puts together low volume collections, which have been quite popular! (If you’re looking to grab one, you might consider following her on Instagram for advance notice of new bundles.) Their customer service is excellent and they offer quick shipping (and at only $5.85, regardless of how much you buy!). If you haven’t checked them out yet, be sure to do so!

koi

And how’s about this new line? This one is Koi, by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Cloud 9, and one that I’ve been anxiously awaiting. I bought this fat quarter bundle here.

So what to do with my new fabrics? Why, put together a new fabric stack of course! I pulled this one together earlier this week while Hazel and Max slept (and I enjoyed a few minutes to myself!). I started with a few of Shannon’s Hipster prints – I’m in love with that cross stitchy one near the top – and gathered together lots of other prints and solids in those same colors (and you’ll note that many of my recent purchases came in handy!). I don’t know yet what this will become (or when I’ll have a chance to even start it), but it was certainly fun spending some time with my fabrics!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

flax plus quilt top

flaxplus

This is what’s been keeping me busy lately (well, this and the little ones!). I wanted to feature those great hand printed fabrics I showed here, and thought a little plus quilt might be just the ticket.

flaxplus2

Originally I thought it would be a mini quilt, since I only had small pieces of the printed fabrics, but as I was putting them up on the design wall, I decided to enlarge it by adding in lots more of the Essex linen in flax, and using that as a background.

flaxplus3

I’m quite happy with it, and kind of love that this color scheme is a change from what I’m typically drawn to.

Action Kivu – 4th annual fundraiser

Screen Shot 2013-08-16 at 7.58.05 AM

Are you ready? It’s time again for the annual Action Kivu fundraiser, organized by Alissa. If you’ve been reading for a while, you may remember this fundraiser from years past, but if not, here’s a brief description of the fundraiser from Alissa’s blog –

Action Kivu is a nonprofit that helps women who are victims of the conflict in Eastern Congo by teaching them to sew at a sewing workshop. Action Kivu also pays for children to go to school and supports other programs for women that provide them ways to support themselves and their families.

The conflict in Congo has taken the lives of over 5.4 million people since 1998. Rape is used as a weapon of war, with estimates putting the number of rapes in the hundreds of thousands. These are horrible statistics but together, year after year now, we have made a difference for some specific women and children. You can read more about their efforts here.

This years goal is $20,000 and together I know we can meet it! Every little bit counts, so hopefully you’ll consider a donation to this wonderful cause. As an added incentive, by donating you can be entered to win a number of wonderful prizes (take a look at them here). Click here to go to Alissa’s post to make a donation!

**As an added (added) incentive, I’m adding a little extra giveaway. Donate at least $25 and then comment on this post to be entered to win a selection of out of print Heather Ross fabrics (pieces from her Mendocino, Lightning Bugs and/or West Hill lines). I don’t have a photo for you now as I’m away from home, but I promise it’ll be good! Let’s see how much we can raise for the women and children of the Congo! (I’ll select a winner once the fundraiser ends)

We have a winner! Random.org has selected comment #3, Leila! Expect an email from me shortly!
