Amy Butler Block Quilt(s)

I pulled out my bag of scraps last night, thinking that I might put them together to make some kind of patchwork bag. As I sat amongst all the scraps I couldn’t picture a bag, but rather a quilt. I know, I know, I have two quilts already started that I should be working on. But hey, why not make that three (or maybe even four? more on that later…).

I decided to piece together some blocks for this new quilt – I was thinking I’d do three fabrics in each block – one main fabric, a second fabric for a strip, and the third as a small square or stripe. I put 10 together last night and then cut them to approximately 8″ squares. And here’s what I have —

As you can see, 8 of them follow this pattern. The remaining two ended up with three fabrics, but in a slightly different variation. I originally thought I’d include them all in the same quilt, with the common theme being three fabrics in each quilt block, but now I’m thinking that perhaps this should be a separate, coordinating quilt… make that 4 quilts that I’m now working on…

A much improved workspace

I’ve been waiting to post about my new desk. I thought that the pictures would be better if I waited until I bought stools, but at the rate I’m going, that might be never, so you’ll have to imagine the stools.

I didn’t really have any place for my sewing supplies and really nowhere to do any cutting. Most was done on the floor, which is ok, but does get hard on the back after a while. I knew I wanted a craft table that would be nice and tall – one that I could stand at (or sit at a high stool, if I ever get my act together!)

This table fit the bill. It was initially a coffee table, which I bought at a yard sale held by my sister’s boyfriend. I believe this was a table he built himself – if I recall correctly, this top is actually an old door. I bought it, not knowing what I’d do with it (in addition to hoarding fabric, I also hoard older wooden furniture… ah, we need a bigger house!).

Morgan took one look at it and said it would make a great craft table, especially if the legs were removed and it was hung on the wall using steel cables.

Easier said than done, but luckily my brother, Ryan, (who isn’t really so crafty, but is very very handy) was around for this project. Off to Home Depot! He picked up everything we needed and in a flash had it all set up.

And I love it!

The wood is really nice – Erich waxed it and it has a wonderful super smooth feel now. Although I managed to pile on all my new fabrics so now it’s hard to tell what’s underneath…

Here it is pre-fabric explosion, and then again now. At least everything’s folded. That’s something, right?

I think I’m going to be much more productive now!

A few completed projects…

Just a few pictures of some recently completed projects… I’ve already posted similar photos, so if you’re tired of seeing them, you may want to skip this post!

First – –

More pillows! These three are going to my sister’s boss, Karla. From what I’ve heard, she has a new couch that needs pillows. These are 20″ pillows in the Amy Butler Full Moon Polka Dot in Lime. Just lovely, if I do say so myself!

I hope you love them Karla!

And second —

More market bags. I liked the first two so much that I decided to make a couple more. No one can have too many bags!
