drawstring bags!

Just a quick little project, but oh so satisfying!!

I used Jeni’s wonderful tutorial for these lined drawstring bags. The first was so quick and easy to put together that I decided I certainly needed two. I’m using them to keep my new knitting projects contained. I haven’t started either project yet, but one will be for a winter hat for Max, and the other will be a honey cowl for myself.

I can’t really call myself a knitter, but I do get the urge every winter. This year I think I’m going to make it my goal to make something more than just a straight scarf! And to that end, a couple of us have started a little Flickr group, Purl and Patchwork, for those who love sewing and knitting. Hopefully it will provide the inspiration (and help!) I need to make my goal a reality! We’d love to have you join if you’re so inclined…

Anyway, even though I have yet to actually start any knitting, I’m feeling quite ready with my cute little drawstring knitting bags!

small projects (or more things made out of Echo!)

That seems to be the theme around here this week. After receiving an order of Lotta Jansdotter’s Echo, I’ve been using it in lots of projects. I’ve been finding it easy to pair with other things in my stash, which is always nice. The sign of a good line, I think!

Max got another pair of quick change trousers –

(side 1, with the great Lotta Ruta print paired with some Flea Market Fancy)

(and side 2, with Lizzy House Pearl Bracelet in yellow and a bit of Lotta Moira.)

{Oh, and for those of you who asked about the pattern for Max’s sweater – it came from an old knitting book of my grandmother’s. My mom thinks it may be a Spinnerin pattern. Unfortunately the only info on the pattern is Baby Pullover #17. A quick google search didn’t come up with anything for me, but I’ll keep looking.}

His pants match the Tova dress I made for myself out of the same print (mother & son matching outfits? hmm.. ) I chopped off some of the sleeve length to make this a summery short sleeved version. Not so appropriate for right now, but luckily we’re taking a little trip to Florida this winter, so I think this will be perfect. (and yes, the sleeves should be just a bit shorter – I guessed, and guessed wrong!)

Oh, and then I couldn’t resist making up another pair of quick change trousers for Max’s cousin, Aidan. I went with the Lotta Ruta in navy paired with a little Cake Rock Beach, with Echino panthers on the reverse.

I used a few of the scraps to make up some string blocks which became these two potholders — a very belated gift for a dear friend. And oops, she hasn’t seen them yet, so I guess I spoiled the surprise. (but after all this time, is it a surprise anyway?)

And lastly, not pictured, because I couldn’t really photograph it, a new crib sheet for Max’s travel crib. I’m kind of jealous, because I’d love to have sheets for our bed out of any of these prints!

So there you have it – lots of lotta! (and I’m not even over it yet, so you’ll probably see it popping up in a few other projects!) How about you? Have you used any of this line in any projects?

lotta charm quilt

I’m so excited about this new collection, Echo, by Lotta Jansdotter! I received a charm pack a couple months ago and immediately wanted to use the prints in a quilt.

Of course, a charm pack doesn’t provide too much fabric, so my goal was to use the few charms yet still create a decent sized quilt top.

I added in a few solids and some coordinating prints and made up some wonky blocks featuring the Echo charms.

I’ve been waiting for yardage of this line to come out, and when it did, I snagged some extra for backing and binding so I could finish up this little quilt.

I love this print, and knew that I’d love to see a large piece of it on the back. The quilt is a bit wider than the width of fabric, so I had to add in a little strip of another favorite print.

And for the quilting… some more straight lines. I do love this look!

I quilted most of it with lines about 1/2″ apart. Then I was inspired by some quilting shown in Yoshiko Jinzenji’s Quilting Line + Color book, so I adjusted the needle position to add in some sections with lines closer together. You can kind of see it in the photo below.

I’m really happy with how this quilt turned out! And now I can’t wait to start another quilt with some more Echo!
