red + green = brrr!

I had some of Laurie Wisbrun‘s Brrr! fabrics left over after making my Converging Corners quilt, so I decided to use the prints from the red & green colorway to make up a Christmassy quilt. It’s a bit strange to be making a wintery quilt just as we’re moving into Spring, but I can’t help thinking how excited I’ll be to be able to pull out this quilt next winter (I often think about making a Christmassy quilt, but usually wait too long, as in the case of my Ruby Strings quilt!).

This quilt is a repeat of my Timber quilt, which I made long ago during a quiltalong hosted by Randi. I switched up the design a little bit when I made that original quilt, increasing the size of the blocks, adding in the skinny white strips and adjusting the positioning of the blocks a bit. I wasn’t sure of the measurements I used for the Timber quilt, so I guessed at these, and I think they’ve ended up a bit larger than the original, but no matter. I love how this quilt shows off large blocks of your prints, is quick to make, yet still has visual interest.

I am a notorious procrastinator, but perhaps I’m changing my ways! (now let’s just see if I can get this one quilted before Christmas arrives!)

welcome new sponsors!

Just an extra little post this weekend to welcome a few new sponsors to the site! I’m very pleased to have these three wonderful new fabric shops as sponsors – I imagine many of you already shop here, but if you haven’t hopefully you’ll take a little peek at what they have to offer!
_ _ _

Bloomerie Fabrics has a wonderful selection of all your favorite fabrics, including many you didn’t even know you needed! (er, at least that’s been the case when I’ve been browsing over there!) They offer free shipping on orders over $125, and you can order as little as a 1/4 yard on most fabrics (a feature I really like!)

And right now they’re having a great spring sale, with some prices as low as $3 a yard! I have my eye on a few prints from Aneela Hoey’s A Walk in the Woods (at a nice $8/yard!), and I think I may need a few additional prints to complete my Lizzy House Hello Pilgrim collection.

Next up is a great shop called Form & Fabric. I love Form & Fabric because they carry all my favorites from Westminster, Moda and Robert Kaufman (to name just a few!), but they also have a great selection of fabrics from Seven Islands, Yuwa, Lecien & Kokka. (And a great sale section too!)

This is my favorite stripe, part of Lecien’s Color Basic line. I love it in the brown, and find that I use it all the time. It also comes in black (and a few other colors too!), which makes for a great binding on a colorful quilt.

Form & Fabric ships worldwide, and they have a great shipping deal within the US – all orders ship for just $2.99. They also offer some fun, and generous!, giveaways, which are open to all.

And last, but certainly not least, the Fat Quarter Shop. What don’t they have?! I think I could find everything I needed and then some! Their fat quarter bundles can’t be beat, and if you sign up for their newsletter, you can get advance notice on new fabrics arriving.

I’ve purchased my color cards here, and speaking of, I see one I don’t have! I love these new Cotton Couture solids from Michael Miller, and I think I will be needing the color card to keep all my solids straight! These new Cotton Couture solids are super soft and really nice to sew with. I’ve just used one of the purples (see, I need a card so I’d know the color name!) and it was really lovely. I will definitely be stocking up on a few more colors!

Thank you to these wonderful new sponsors! I’m so happy to have you here! And a big thank you for the continued support from all my other wonderful sponsors!

a giveaway winner and a perfect new pillow!

Happy Friday! Let’s get right to that giveaway winner, ok? Random.org selected number 490, which is Lynn, who commented that she loves polar bears. Congrats Lynn! I know you’ll love these polar bears.

Thank you all for your sweet comments on my quilt. I’m so happy you like it, and I’m glad to hear that several of you are planning your own Converging Corners quilt. (I’m working on a small one using Flea Market Fancy, but ran out of white thread mid-quilting, so it’s been set aside for now until I can get out for more thread!) I’m sure Laurie will be thrilled to hear how many of you love her new line. Brrr! should be available in June, giving you plenty of time to work on some cute wintery projects!

And now, I wanted to show you a wonderful new pillow that I’ve been enjoying for some time now, but haven’t yet had a chance to show you. Heather and I recently did a little swap – some out of print fabric for a little something handmade. I’m quite certain that I ended up with the better side of this deal, and I knew if for sure when I opened the package and found this gorgeous pillow! I love everything about it – the design is fabulous, showing off those cute little fussy cut squares of perfect Echino and Melody Miller prints, and Heather’s paired those with such bright and fun fabrics.

And there’s even a great pieced binding, complete with that great text print that I never got my hands on! Thank you ever so much Heather! I enjoy looking at, and using!, this pillow each and every day!
