tiger lily triangles

After finishing my Cotton + Steel triangle quilt, I immediately thought that it would be fun to do something similar out of Heather Ross’s upcoming Tiger Lily line. I like that Heather included a number of prints on a darker background as well as several on a lighter/white background, and I thought it would be fun to alternate the darker and lighter prints.

After receiving a FQ bundle from Windham Fabrics (thank you!), I set to work cutting triangles. I posted a photo on IG the other day and then later went back to tag it with the tigerlilyfabric hashtag. Out of curiosity, I checked the tag to see what else had been posted and was sad to find that a quilt had already been made out of this line in the same equilateral triangles. Bummer!

Since I had already cut into all the prints, there wasn’t much I could do to adjust the design, but I decided to see if I could play around with my layout to change it up just a bit. I pulled out a number of the prints and replaced it with more of that great polka dot print as well as a similarly colored Sevenberry polka dot print. I also added in a skinny strip of the polka dots in between each row of triangles and a few striped sections here and there. I pieced many of the triangles again, also. [By the way, for those who asked how to make the pieced triangles, to keep it simple I just sewed two fabrics together first and then cut around my triangle template, placing the seam where I wanted it to fall.] Anyway, I’m happy that these little changes made this quilt just a tad bit different.

Last weekend we dropped the kids off with my parents and headed for a town further south. I presented it to Morgan as a day date, but in reality I also made him do work holding quilts. It’s been a while since we’ve had the luxury of just driving around without a destination and it was really fun. I do love finding fun spots for quilt photos!
