We’re so excited to welcome another new baby to our extended family! Just a month after Max was born, my cousin and his wife gave birth to an adorable baby boy, Aidan. We’re hoping these little guys will have lots of fun together.
And of course a quilt had to be made for this new little one. I worked on this quilt while pregnant — at the time, I wasn’t sure if they were having a boy or girl, so I went the safe route with fabrics in blues and greens. You may recall the Ink & Spindle quilt I made for Nido – this is a similar quilt but in the blue/green colorway. I do adore these Ink & Spindle prints – they’re lovely organic fabrics screenprinted with Lara and Tegan’s gorgeous designs.
I altered this quilt design just a bit to make it a bit smaller and turned it into more of a square shape, thinking it would make a fun playmat. I cut down the second horizontal strip of printed fabrics and used the excess for the backing.
The sashing on the front of the quilt is hemp, and was included in the Ink & Spindle quilt kit. It matches this Essex linen quite well, so I used that on the backing along with a little Moda Bella in Teal. It’s quilted with random straight lines and bound in a dark blue solid. Hopefully it will get lots of use!
Congrats Zach & Kim!! We can’t wait to meet Aidan!
You can find Ink & Spindle fabrics for sale at Nido.

6 weeks!
A shirt or two…

very nice, ashley! love those prints!
Very, very beautiful! May I ask what color of the Essex that is?
The quilt looks gorgeous. Loved the contrasting blue patchwork on the white background. If i were you i would have used more fiberfill and i would have made the edges a bit more round.
I am not complaining though
Perfect fabric choices even when you didn’t know if the baby was a boy or girl. Gorgeous! It will be treasured.
Ash! We L.O.V.E. it! So, so, so awesome! It arrived yesterday and I am hoping to get some good shots of the little guy on it! Can’t wait to get all these babies together! Thank you Ash, it is gorgeous!
Ash – wow – it’s great! Thank you so much. To look at this and know you made it is really quite awesome! Aidan’s going to love it (someday….), but in the meantime, we do!! See you soon!!
Lovely! This could be a quilt for any person – young, old, male, female – it is beautiful!
Oh that is gorgeous fabric!! What a beautiful quilt. I absolutely love it!
Ashley—Wow, you’ve done it again! This quilt is so beautiful and so perfectly suited fo Kim, Zach, and Aidan. Perfect colors, perfect fabric with perfect images. Clearly made with a lot of love and a lot of talent, and oh so special!
This quilt is just beautiful!!
Love it. What a great gift. Do you just do the quilting in random lines with a walking foot? I want to try it.
This is gorgeous – I love those Ink and Spindle prints!
You are amazing! I love this quilt and don’t doubt the new parents will, too.
I absolutely love this beautiful quilt! It will be wonderful for the baby, plus it has the sophistication to be welcome all over the house. Brava!
I love it – what a great way to use larger scale prints. And I love that the colors are not “traditional” baby colors.
this is a wonderful way to showcase large-scale prints. Fantastic!
oh, give me a break. “What Beth said.”
You little one truly is a gorgeous baby! Love the pictures of him on the quilts. Enjoy every moment!
I like that quilt and those Ink and Spindle prints – but no international orders
((
Is that the natural Essex linen?
I just happened to visit your site and its amazing
I have a doubt. I have a king size bed. If I want a quilt that will flow and touch the floor, what size should I buy? Will King size be enough?
