thrift store finds

I love browsing in thrift stores. I haven’t had any luck at the thrift stores in our area, but I always try to visit a few while I’m out of town. Typically I’m drawn to the furniture, where I always find something I just have to have (but can’t, since I’m miles and miles from home!). This time though, I skipped that section completely and went hunting for the quilting/sewing sections. My mom spotted this great selection of old quilting books and magazines –

and then over in the linens section I found this great new flat sheet, just perfect for the backing on some little boy quilt –

Now I must get back to my Christmas shopping! Once again I’ve waited until the last minute and now I’m scrambling… maybe some year I’ll learn to be more prepared! :)

Thanks so much for all the wonderful birthday wishes! It was a great day, spent on one of my favorite beaches… with that dish of tasty homemade ice cream (and yes, I did share it!)

If you need a preview of what’s in store when you return, stop by my blog – just changed the lead picture to reflect the current status in Maine, though from my niece’s report in Pittsford, it’s about the same. I do wish the thrift stores around here had such bounty!

Great finds! I use sheets for backings too, even though you’re not “supposed” to. They say they wear out quicker than real fabric, but for a little boy how long will it really last anyway!?

Such great finds! There’s a secondhand bookstore I go to a lot that always has tonnes of quilting books for super cheap… love it!

Score! What a stack of books!

I don’t comment often but I want you to know you keep this beginner inspired. I’ll see one of your posts and run back to my sewing room and get busy on my unfinished project! LOL! My husband thanks you!

Not sure if you would be interested but I am hosting a nativity set giveaway if you’d like to enter.

Thrift stores rock — I just found some beautiful florals to use in a quilt at Goodwill. The picture of your feet reminds me ever so wonderfully of my trip to VA Beach in June.

I lament the same about VT but Randolph has a couple good ones- hit or miss but small and fun. Church sales can be a great thrift source in this area.
