It’s giveaway day at Sew Mama Sew. Last time I made something to give away, but this time I couldn’t seem to get my act together! So instead, I’m giving away a bit of fabric for all you fabric lovers out there! Those of you who read my blog know that I’m a huge fabric lover — fabric of all kinds, but especially out of print fabrics. I’m also a huge fan of Heather Ross and the fabrics she designs… you see where this is going, right? (or maybe you’ve already skipped all this text and went straight to the photo!)
Anyway, these VW buses are designed by Heather Ross and were part of her older line, Lightning Bugs and other Mysteries. I’m giving away a fat quarter of each color to one lucky commenter. All you need to do is leave a comment — if you want, you can tell me what projects you’re currently working on… or if not, just a friendly hi will do! I’ll pick a winner on Monday, June 1st.

Comments have been closed. I will select and post the winner shortly!
I finished my first quilt!
I do love this quilt!

Oh, I am such a fan of Heather’s fabrics! I have never even seen these in person.
Right now I am working on: bags for teachers, quilts for my boys, curtains, and a million small things. So, I clearly need more fabric to begin more projects!
Wow, I will be comment number one, not good for the random picking. I love this fabric, because I have seen it a few times from fellow bloggers, but never in person. I would love a little treat of this, I will keep my fingers crossed. Well back to holiday quilts. Yes, working on holiday quilts since I am making 9 of them!!!
*wave!*
Ooh, how fun! Definitely count me in!
Currently working on a zig-zag baby quilt for a friend, the nine-patch quilt-along, a ragged-square quilt for an Etsy order, and am about to join the Old Red Barn Co quilt-along as soon as my fabric arrives. And, of course, the list of projects I WANT to do….
wonderful! i love this fabric!
I love Heather Ross fabric. Makes me smile every time I see it. Currently I am finishing up a quilt out of my husband’s old dress shirts and working on a quilt top out of Heather Bailey’s pop garden fabric.
trying to finish one project finished to get started on another! thank you for the giveaway
How can a girl resist! This morning I’ll be working on a quilted table cover and some seat cushions for my kids. I’m really going to try and get it all finished today.
LOVE the Heather Ross fabric! I am sewing the binding on a baby quilt, binding a twin quilt, making a table runner and a purse as gifts, and HOPING to get to work on a quilt just for ME next. Fingers crossed…
I’m working on many things – a few quilts, a painting, and a knitted scarf. Wow I need to get to work.
Thanks for such a great giveaway – I don’t have any Heather Ross and I just adore her fabrics.
I have too many projects going on right now! Including 4 quilts, two shirts, and a skirt.
Right now I am frantically trying to finish a quilt that I have been working on as a very belated wedding gift and must have finished by this time next week so I can give it to the recipient in person. I can’t wait for it to be finished. It has been a great challenge for me.
oh yay! this is a good one. I’m working on the candy store quilt from the book material obsession. I’m usung heather ross’s far far away.
I am working on winter holiday gifts for the inlaws, but these fabrics would be perfect for a baby quilt I’m working on.
What am I working on….a wedding quilt for a friend, a scrap quilt probably for me…a knitted cardigan, a knitted flopsy beret, several cotton dishcloths, and a million and one things that have been back burnered like repairs to some old garage sale find quilts.
Thanks for the giveaway and the lovely blog. You’ve definitely inspired me to make some fun summer dresses…since I don’t already have enough projects…
I am currently working on a disappearing nine patch baby quilt out of older pinks and greens that I bought at a going out of business sale. I am highlighting with a yellow and pink moda print. It is turning out okay, not great. who knows, when I get it done it may be fantastic. I would love to win your VW bus fabric.
I looove those vw buses! I’ve only seen this fabric on other people’s blogs – would LOVE to have some to play with!
I haven’t found any time to sew in the last few weeks, but when I do, I’ll be putting together the Neptune quilt (top finished) and then making a baby quilt for friends of ours due soon…
Thanks for the chance to enter for such great fabric!
I love reading your blog, it’s so inspiring! I’m currently trying to finish up a baby quilt in Michael Miller’s Bots N Rockets line. Thanks for doing the giveaway!
Oh, those fabrics are so precious! Right now I’ve got a bunch of quilts in progress – one for Project Linus, two zig-zag quilts from thifted linen, two other thrifted linen quilts, and one baby quilt. Eeep – I’d better get busy!
HI!!!
I love this fabric because it reminds me of holydays. I?m working on more ( much more…) than one project and shouldn’t start a new one soon!!
I would love to win this. I’m expecting my Far Far Away to arrive this week. I’m going to use some of it in a bag for my little girl. I’ve also got a watermelon table runner planned.
Thanks for fun giveaway! I have several projects in progress and can seem to get going on those for the past few weeks. I need a kick!
Well, I’ll never be one to pass up fabric, especially Heather Ross fabric! you’re so generous to be giving away those prints!
Beautiful fabric! Who doesn’t love it! I need to finish 2 skirts for my daughter & pj pants for a friend. There is a lot more planned when all that is done – you inspired me to try a quilt.
Ashley, this is all your fault. I’m so in llove with Heather Ross fabric and it’s all because of you! I’ve been lucky enough to buy some fabrics on line as there aren’t too many suppliers in Australia.Of course, I’ve no idea what to use them for just yet, they’re too lovely to cut on a whim!
I’m always amazed when people can let go of out-of-print fabric as fabulous as this. Thank you for the opportunity!! I have a few projects going on right now but my number one priority is finishing my daughter’s baby quilt.
woohoo. comments are working. I’m funkepunkemonke and I wrote a comment on the flickr picture about what I’m working on.
Oh! I LOVE VW buses, and that Heather Ross fabric is great! I have a collection of little die-cast buses driving along my fireplace mantel. It would be nice to make a VW themed quilt! Thanks for the fun giveaway.
Oh, I adore the VW bus fabric!! Right now I am working on a cute wonky pinwheel baby quilt for my friend and a couple of jersey knit skirts for myself.
Heather Ross fabrics are the greatest. Right now I’m working on a coin quilt of sorts in green/blue/tan tones. These fabrics would work perfectly on the second quilt on my list. It’s the same quilt as the one I’m working on, only in red/pink/yellow tones. Thanks for the great giveaway!
that fabric is so fun! I have too many projects on the go to even start a list!
My husband’s car just died this weekend and he has started the process of looking for a new one. He has test driven an obscene number of cars so far this week – BUT – and the point of this story is that he drove a VW for the very first time yesterday and he was giddier than he was when he met me. The man is seriously in love. I can’t think yet what I’d make him out of this fabric, but it would definitely be for him. Maybe boxers. Snort. How fun would that be?
Such cute prints! Right now I’m working on too much at once – a skirt for me, a shirt for my son, a table runner and I’m going back and salvaging the ruins of my first attempted quilt!
Oh my gosh! I had no idea there was VW printed fabric! How cool! (I met my husband because of a Volkswagen.)
pick me, pick me. I have been looking for the pink VW buses.
I love each of these fabrics so much and have become a great fan on Heather Ross, thanks in large part to the great things you make with her fabrics. And you are causing me to obsess over fabrics that are now out of print. So thanks for that (I guess….)
Yummy fabrics! I stumbled on your blog a month ago and love it.
I’m having a giveaway and hosting a fq swap. Come and check it out
I so LOVE that fabric. I’d LOVE to win. I have a bunch of little projects going, but not a quilt. I will as soon as I got that fabric though. Did I mention I LOVE IT!?!?!?
I’m about to start on my very first quilt. Would love some Heather Ross too – just picked up Weekend Sewing – loving it!
Would I be able to email you with some questions? I’m seriously impressed that the quilt below was your FIRST quilt? 9 months ago? You’re inspring!
Lovely prints, and even better, I don’t have those yet!
Right now I’m working on box bags for my shop, it’s taking a long time but it’s fun!
Those are so fab! Pick me!!!
I’m working on all my knitting projects right now – but I was very inspired to find you’d only been quilting 9 months. I do have a quilt in the works, made from scraps of all the dresses and tops I’ve made for my daughter, but that will take a while to complete!
Wow, I can’t believe you’re giving away the VW buses fabric. So Cute! I’m currently working on a backing for one of my quilting bee quilt tops and making nine patches and starting a new quilt a long. Craft ADD at it’s finest!
Love Heather Ross!
I’m working on a wonky log cabin quilt and some simple summer skirts and dresses.
I’m giving away some Greece inspired goodies on my blog this week, so check it out!
I love Heather Ross prints!
I’m currently working on two baby quilts and a bag for my mother. It’s keeping me sane in the “clean up the house so we can sell it” frenzy we’re in.
I am currently working on 2 quilt-alongs. Plus I have 9 quilts that need to be finished…yikes!
I’d love these! Thanks!

I really enjoy your blog and it has gotten me wanting to quilt again. It has been a few years since I have made one. Thank you for your inspiration
Fun fabric. I’m working on a couple Bandanna Skirts for my girls (they’re a tad too short, so need to add an extra panel). I’m also trying to psych myself out to start my first quilt. You’re so inspiring, and a little bit daunting to us beginners, though.
Love your stuff
Oh! These are so cool and giveaways are so much fun! I am working on quilts for my 4 grandkids for Christmas. These would be a great addition to the ones I am making for my 2 grandsons!

I love Heather Ross fabrics. Right now, I am working on some spring/summer clothes and am making a string quilt using your tutorial.
Oh oh!
I am in the process of compiling fabrics to make a quilt for my first (and only) boy. I am basing it on a racetrack quilt pattern – Encyclopedia of Classic Quilt Patterns by Patricia Wilens. I actually priced out a piece of that fabric because it is adorable but decided i couldn’t afford it. Your quilts have been an inspiration – thank you for blogging. I have been following you for several months but this is my first post.
Those are great fabrics–great giveaway! Your work is always inspiring
oh my!! you have no idea! i’ve been trying to find those VW buses for my son–i want to make him a throw quilt for his (6th) birthday next month!! he loves anything that has to do with motor vehicles! lol!

Yes, super generous for sure – especially Heather Ross. I ordered some of her fabric online (The Mendocino collection) through an Etsy shop and it was delivered yesterday. It’s so gorgeous I don’t even want to pre-wash it! I’m planning to make this bag, have you seen it?

Here’s the story about why those VW buses are SO cool. we’re in a wedding this fall — and it’s become a huge joke that the groom and his men will be taking off for a week in search of the ultimate VW van. i’m the only bridesmaid in support of the plan — and i’ve got to do something made out of that fabric for a gift for the bride! it’s become the ultimate wedding gift!
Yay, fabric! I’m working a quilt.
I think when your blog goes down on the first morning of your giveaway, that’s a sure sign you have the best giveaway item.
I have been looking for the blue for awhile now (to add to my son’s quilt i’m making him)…my mom’s been looking for the pink. Maybe one of us will be drawn to win.
I am working on a list of things! Most of them are projects out of Weekend Sewing, which would make some of her fabric wonderful.
Oh! I love the VW’s and Heather but I’ve never seen this print! Now I’ve got to have it……I’m making new seats for my daughters’ doll strollers and some quilts for their doll cradles (sensing a theme?).
My sister just turned me on to a homemade diaper tutorial she is interested in making for her little-one-in-the-making. As soon as she finds out the gender, I’m going to get busy and surprise her with a nice stack of diapers!

Oh, I recently finished up AMH’s Socialite dress – I noticed that you made one and thought I’d mention that I did too. Comfy, isn’t it? Again, I enjoy your blog – it inspires me! (for example, the zig zag quilt? loved yours so much, I went looking to make one.)

Oh, I’ve been wanting those VW buses for so long. I used to have a green bus….it was awesome.
Currently, I’m binding a rather large quilt. It’ll be done for Spring to Finish, but I’m taking my time binding it. Next I may try a string quilt, thanks to your tutorial, or a buttercup bag. Hee, hee. So fun.
I love this fabric and I cannot find it anywhere! Please count me in! I just finished up a coin quilt for my boyfriend for his graduation from grad school, and last night I started a pinwheel quilt using Momo’s Wonderland fabric. So far, I love it!

A very friendly hi coming your way! I would love to win these fabrics. I probably would use them to make a wristlet so I could enjoy looking at it all the time. This fabric could not go into something I would make to give away! Definitely not!
thanks for the giveaway! the fabric looks so sweet and is probably quite rare. actually, even though i don’t think i’ve ever seen it before, i’m sure it could be found in many a stash.
I love Heather’s fabrics! We are in a small town that is a total black hole for fabric and I’ve never gotten around to ordering online. These are so cute! I have no clue what I’d make with them but I’d come up with something… I’m thinking little pouches w/ zippers…
Thanks for the giveaway!

Here’s a friendly hi! I really think these fabrics are too precious!
Hello from a fellow Vermonter! I have really enjoyed seeing the quilts that you have made, the photos of your beautiful wedding, and the great clothes! Currently, I am working on the summer blouse from Weekend Sewing-I love your version!
Fun, I love these giveaways. I’m currently starting the Old Red Barn Co quilt-along.
You can’t go wrong with fabric can you. I love your blog and your colour choices. They inspire me. Keep up the good work!
Oh yummy! Love these hard to find gems. Thanks for the giveaway!
I have been searching high and low for that fabric!!!! Could I be lucky enough to win this giveaway?!?! I’m working on gifts right now, a dress for a soon to be two-year-olds birthday, an owl pillow for another birthday, and some summer clothing for me!

VW bugs — how awesome is that? I am currently working on a quilt for my mother for our handmade/homemade/secondhand Christmas. I’m following (trying to!) crazymomquilts 9-patch-along. It’s intense. Thanks for the give away and I love your quilts and the quilt photo shoots!
Hi, hello, hi! I’m working on coffee cup cozies for friends.
I am such a fan of Heather Ross! I would be making this into something for my toddler daughter–not sure what, though!
I’m knitting, knitting, knitting right now but somehow I’ve lost my knitting mojo this week. I think its proportional to the amount of sunshine we’ve had lately! Thanks for the give away
Those VW vans are too cute! I am working on a quilt-a-long (my first) and on a crocheted baby blanket for one of my friends that I have known for about 20 years-since we were 7 or 8! She is pregnant with her first and I am so excited for her! I am also in the middle of a million projects, because that is always how it is at my house-I love to start new projects-not the best at finishing them!!
Hello! I can’t believe you are parting with these cute little fabrics, you are way to nice. I would LOVE them.
wow you have a million comments already! Love those VW’s!
I see that someone else has already blamed you for their obsession with Heather Ross fabric, I think I will join the chorus! I didn’t know what I was missing until I started to read your blog and since then… well it has been a search that has taken me to the most obscure pages of google with little success so I would love to win. Current projects, two unfinished quilts and I’m seriously contemplating joining Dana’s (Old Red Barn Co) quilt- along but had to buy new fabric before I could participate!
Heather Ross is my favorite fabric designer as well. I’m just finishing up a baby quilt using her Mendicino line in blush with my first attempt at hand quilting!
I LOVE the name of your blog! And I love Heather Ross! Working on finishing up an apron…
Beep beep! Honk, honk! Such cute buses! Thanks for the chance to win!
I love these fabrics! I am finishing up a quilt for a friend’s wedding. I hope to post pics after the wedding in mid-June!
Let’s see …..I’m doing threee quilts at once for my three neices who each got a new room in their newly reno’d house, 9-patch with crazy mom quilts (altho i’m lurking) and a coin quilt with little bits of lovelies i’ve got left over. oh yeah and a cottage quilt retreat next weekend where i’ll begin another quilt–can’t remember just what we’re doing
I look to your site for much inspiration and want to start a few of your designs once this lot is done. I too love Heather Ross fabrics but have far too few of them in my stash–they’re so hard to find here in Canada. Thanks for the chance –ann
Cute fabrics! I’m making summer skirts for a friend, who in return is knitting me a sweater. Dontcha just love trades?
Love these fabrics and LOVE your quilts, summer wardrobe, blog, last photos with the cows! I was so thrilled to read in your post about your first quilt that you have been sewing only 9 months. I started in December and have been a little obsessed and must admit your work has added to the obsession, thanks so much for the inspiration! If I could do 1/10th of what you have been doing in such a short time, I would be thrilled!

Love these fabrics-I love your blog and all of the beautiful things you make.
I’m only working on floor pillows for the last few months. I just hate cutting fabric–if I could get over that I’d do so much more sewing.
That is my all time favorite fabric! I am dying to use it for some appliques!
Ooooh those buses are great! All my projects are on hold right now as my 2 week old boy doesn’t seem to appreciate craft time yet! Ha! I just read Darcy’s comment; she’s in very much the same boat.
Fun! I am working on some UFO’s and my nine patches for the quilt-a-long.
You know what? I was coming straight to your blog today to post a comment – I would love some fabric too (always nice!) but I don’t want you to think this is a shameless plug to get some fabric.
I have been reading your blog for some time now – and I just wanted to tell you how inspirational your quilting is. I have been making quilts for over 8 years, but I have fallen in love with your use of color, shape, and fabric. Thank you for sharing your work with us!

What am I trying to win again?
Right now I’m trying to make a blouse for myself but the tension on my machine has gone all wonky so I’ve put it in time out.
I love your first quilt! Mine was one big piece of fabric, basically folded in half the long way, then tied instead of quilted. And I used bias tape around the edge. It just covers the top of a twin bed-no overhang anywhere. It was for my son and he loves it dearly though. I plan to someday make him a better one!
Great looking fabric. I’m working on a quilt for me, some caps for my dad, and some knitting bags.
wow #263 – not a chance but….. I have probably 30 UFSs but this week I am working on keeping my house clean (no mean feat) for open for inspections.

I’m currently making a quilt out of mine and my fiance’s old high school t-shirts. I can’t wait to finish and start something else new and exciting!
I’m making a quilt for an auction coming up this Summer. Some friends are adopting a girl from China and are doing the auction for a fundraiser. Here’s to hoping we get enough money so she can become part of the family!
Heather Ross rocks. I have so many projects I’m working on right now, I wouldn’t know where to begin. Actually, I have some fairy and toadstool Alexander Henry in front of me that I’m going to make into a Bo Peep skirt from Anna Maria Horner’s new book for my daughter.
Fun! Love it!!! Right now, I’m working on a mini-quilt that I hope to turn into a napkin holder. hmm. That makes more sense in my head.

This is popular! But I’d still love to win!
i am working on hand stitching the binding on two quilts…a baby quilt for my first niece and candy bar road using the sweet line of fabric. i have been in front of my machine for so long that i am excited for some mindless binding!

I love this fabric! I’ve got do many things started and not much finished, mainly stuff for my kids. A shirt, one of those shirred sundresses, the list goes on.
My uncle has a VW bus and I have fond memories of tumbling around in the back (no seats, carpets, or anything else to make it comfortable) as a child. Once we got to sit back there on unsecured camp chairs. That was awesome. But I missed the whole Lightning Bugs line when it was out, and I’ve been sadly eying the buses ever since.
I’m currently work on three (count ‘em) king sized quilts. One of which has bee in progress for almost 10 years, and is ALMOST done.

I’m currently working on a tunic top using vintage sheets.
Love your blog! Thanks for the opportunity to win some great fabric!
Fun!
I just finished a fancy dress for my 14 year old’s 8th grade promotion ceremony. She looked beautiful in it! I’m gearing up to make a couple skirts for myself, some sundresses for my 7 year old, and thinking of about a million other projects, in addition to knitting, and cross-stitching, and training for a marathon (this weekend.) I think I’ll want to sit a bit after the marathon. lol. Will I get some projects done then?
Hi! Your first quilt is gorgeous!!! And I love the fabric you are giving away. thanks for sharing.
I’m working on too many things–it’s ridiculous. A appliqued skirt based on an Anthropologie curtain; a wedding quilt a la Denyse Schmidt/Film in the Fridge; many sundresses for various little people; long overdue placemat/table runner set; and the list goes on… Thank you for sharing your most inspirational projects!
Ack!!! Those would be PERFECT for the baby quilts I’m working on for my b/g twins. Fingers and toes crossed!

I am new to the quilting/blogging world, but I LOVE your site! You make the most gorgeous quilts. Any addition to my very small fabric collection would be welcome and the prints you are giving away are awesome.

With 313 posts before me, I probably don’t have a very good chance of winning. But I am so envious of this fabric since we OWN two vdubs and we are just nuts about them. Well…a girl can dream…

I broke out of the box just a LITTLE bit, thanks to you, and added a stripe to the backing of one of my newest baby quilts. But it’s nowhere near as gorgeous as that white, blue, and black back of yours. But hey, baby steps for baby quilts, right? At least it’s in the right direction, AND, it made a piece that wasn’t quite big enough, work out ! Thanks for the inspiration !

Also working on, my first quilt (top finished) of all the Horner Drawing Room pieces – also 2 pj bottoms in the Heather Ross Mermaids for my teenage nieces, a Mermaid nightgown for me!, 3 matching summer dresses for my girls, a “study hall” skirt for me, and when I finish that – a new quilt, matching skirts for my girls and me in the pink wallflower. Ambitious, I know. Ahhhhhhh, fabric!

How could you not smile when you see those VW buses! I’m working on a gift quilt of sawtooth cats for my cat-lover friend. Her birthday is in August but this may end up being a Xmas gift at the rate I’m moving. I may just have to make a purse out of the VW fabric to get me going again
I have 3, yes Three, quilts going on right now, except all of them are in the closet sitting on top of my sewing machine, sadly being neglected. and I have the pieces cut out for Ric Rac’s fabric teapot in some great Lemon fabric.

When my last child left for college my husband bought me a bug to replace the one I gave up over 30 years ago. I love it! Keep quilting, your quilt is beautiful.
Cool VW fabric! I’m working on a quilt for my cat lol. We just moved the couch in front of the window and she has found a permanent perch, I think, so I want her to sit on something that is easy to throw in the wash rather than trying to get cat hair off the back of the couch!
Wow. I love those quilts you’ve posted. Beautiful job!
I also love that fabric in the giveaway. How cute is that!

Oooh, Heather Ross! Best giveaway so far! So far, in my short sewing career, I am a really great fabric collector. I love Heather Ross stuff – I have goldfish, and pink bikes, dogs in orange, etc. After seeing your quilt, I must get some Far, Far Away (especially with a unicorn-loving 5 year-old in the house – she’s even seen one!). And I’m working on my first quilt (haven’t cut a thing yet) – all yellows and whites for my new niece or nephew! Great blog.
Yay for HR! I love your quilts!
Oh. Love the Heather Ross fabric.
I am working on a knit sweater for my little boy!

I tell ya, all I’ve been doing the past few days is reading blogs and more blogs and more blogs with a short break to make 2 aprons for the Bull City Chili Challenge in Durham, NC. My cousin is the organizer and my son’s band, 100 Yorktown, played for the festivities. Next up on my work table – western style shirts for the band. They’re a rock band. I think it’s supposed to be ironic.
