A look back at 2008

I’ve seen several “a year in review” type posts today, and it seems only appropriate that I do the same.

Last year at this time I never would have imagined that I’d have a blog, or that I’d become a quilter, or that I’d rather buy fabric than clothing. Who would have guessed!

In fact, it’s only exactly one year ago that my mom taught me how to sew. At the time, I wanted a reusable market bag. I figured I could get her to make me one, and that would be the end of it. Instead, I seemed to have gotten hooked…

I started this blog in June of 2008, with the intention of it being a photo blog (hence the name!). My interest changed to sewing after being inspired by all the crafty people out there who have their own blogs, or who share photos on Flickr. Through the wealth of information available online, and through the help of other bloggers who went out of their way to provide helpful suggestions (thanks Alissa!) I somehow became a quilter.

I finished these 10 quilts in the last half of 2008, and I have 5 others which are well on their way to becoming quilts. I think there will be many more to come… I am really looking forward to 2009 and all it has to bring! Thank you to everyone who visits my blog and to all of those who leave such kind comments. I truly appreciate each and every one.

(and if tree skirts count, then here’s #11!)

I wish you all a very happy new year!

Wow! i had no idea that you had only been quilting for such a short time. Your quilts are brilliant! I think my favourite is the ‘bits of colour’ one – i am definitely going to have a go at making one of those, I love the Amy Butler one with the rectangles too, and the spotty dotty one, oh and the zig zags…okay, I love them all. Happy New Year to you!

I only found your blog 2 days ago and have been blown away by your talent and AMAZING quilts. Now to find out you have been at this less than a year? Unbelievable.
A question–what kind of white fabric are using in all of these? I just love your style and designs.
    Thanks and Happy New Year.

I think you are shocking everyone — add me to the list. Your work is amazing for someone who has sewn a lifetime, but one year?! . . .

Maybe you are posting in your sleep and you just don’t remember that you’ve been sewing for decades and it’s been a struggle to get this good and you’re actually a seasoned professional who has won many awards . . . AND you have three good elves to help you because how else can anyone get this many quilts done in six months?!

    Way to go!!!

Wow. I can’t believe you’ve only been sewing a year! You have a great talent.

I have been sewing a few years, but recently got the obsession feeling about it. I really thank my mother for teaching me to sew as a girl. And my sister for keeping the passion alive.

    I love seeing your projects.

Snap! I’ve only been sewing a year too.
Quilting is so very addictive. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a little body curled up watching tv wrapped in a quilt I made for him. (Though I don’t know why I say ‘little’ body… my kids are all taller than me now!)
Great job with your quilts. You’ve been so productive! (I only finished 6…)

Will follow your great work with anticipation.

I just found your blog through Sew Mama Sew. You do an awesome job! I am a beginnner sewer for about a year & a half now but am so afraid to take the quilting plunge.Do you have any recomendations for beginning quilting (i.e. books , paper piecing, blogs)? I do pretty well with a good tutorial but I wondered if your first ones were from books or tutorials.I would love someone to point me in the right direction.
